Ever wondered how WordPress actually gets built, improved, and kept running smoothly?
Welcome to Contributor Day at WordCamp Kampala 2026 , where you go from just using WordPress to actually shaping it.
This is your chance to roll up your sleeves and contribute to the global WordPress project alongside other passionate community members. Whether you’re a developer, designer, writer, marketer, or just curious, there’s a place for you here.
So… What really happens on Contributor Day?
You’ll join a team (also called a “table”) focused on a specific area of WordPress like Core, Design, Documentation, Support, Community, Marketing, or even Accessibility. With guidance from experienced contributors, you’ll learn how things work and start contributing right away.
No, you don’t need to be an expert.
No, you won’t be thrown into the deep end.
Yes, you will learn a lot.
What Can You Contribute?
Plenty.
- Fix or test bugs
- Improve documentation
- Help answer support questions
- Translate WordPress into local languages
- Work on design or accessibility improvements
- Contribute ideas and feedback
If you can use WordPress, you can contribute to WordPress.
What You’ll Need
- Your laptop (fully charged – we believe in preparedness
- A WordPress.org account (you can create one on the spot if needed)
- Willingness to learn and collaborate
- Curiosity (this one is non-negotiable)
Why You Should Join
Because WordPress is open source, it thrives because people like you show up and contribute.
This is your opportunity to:
- Give back to a platform you already use
- Learn directly from experienced contributors
- Build connections within the community
- Grow your skills in ways tutorials can’t teach
First Time? Perfect.
If this is your first Contributor Day, even better. There will be onboarding sessions and friendly faces ready to guide you through your first contribution. Everyone starts somewhere, this is your somewhere.
Let’s Build WordPress Together
Contributor Day isn’t about perfection. It’s about participation.
So come curious. Come ready. Come contribute.
Because WordPress isn’t just a tool, it’s a community. And this is where you become part of it.
